Interim Education Minister Filipe Bole is looking forward to the examination results of the 72 secondary schools that were identified for the project on improving performance in schools.

Bole said that given the attention and the level of assistance to these schools this year, there is no reason why the students should not produce satisfactory results.

The interim minister said that 13 schools in Suva benefitted from $175,000 worth of resources from the Ministry while the Ba/Tavua schools benefitted with $77,000 worth of assistance and the government schools have used $90,949 to date.

Apart from this, schools in 7 other districts were also provided assistance.

According to Bole, schools with low marks in science subjects were found to be lacking resources and equipment and since the Ministry has done all to help, it is now up to the schools to lift their game.

Bole said the taskforce team appointed to look into these schools academic performances has found that schools have shown some improvements, however, statistics related to subjects like accounting, economics, basic technology and science are of grave concern.
