Handle food in a clean environment, don't buy frozen food unless it’s new stock and boil all drinking water.

This is the advice from the Health Ministry Media Liaison Officer Iliesa Tora following Cyclone Mick on Monday in an effort to ensure no one gets sick.

The Consumer Council of Fiji is urging shop owners and the supermarkets not to sell food items affected by Cyclone Mick, especially since areas are still facing power failure in the whole of the Western and parts of the Central division.

Chief Executive Premila Kumar said consumers can be lured by attractive low prices offered by shops and supermarkets on thawed frozen products and other flood damaged food items such as rice, flour and biscuits, adding consumers should be aware that there is a high possibility of products being contaminated.
