The Works and Transport Ministry is now clamping down hard on bogus contracts being issued where some officials are colluding with contractors and share the public funds after contracts are awarded.

Ministry spokesperson, Sainiana Waqainabete said in 2007, a grass cutting and weeding contract was issued.

However no work was carried and some officials and the contractors defrauded the government of more than 160 thousand dollars.

Waqainabete said this matter has been dealt with following investigations and the official concerned has been charged and convicted.
