The partly decomposed body of a 34 year old German national was discovered in a mangrove swamp in Taveuni on Friday afternoon.
Labasa police confirmed the German national was involved in pearl farming and used to go on diving expeditions on his own.
They added while they have not ruled out foul play, they suspect the deceased's diving gear might have given some problem which led to his death.
Police are advising members of the public to refrain from diving alone.
The post mortem examination of the German national is expected to be carried out on Tuesday.
