The body of a man was found on the banks of Bocalevu river in Labasa this morning and police are now treating the case as murder.
Divisional Crime Officer Northern ASP Luke Rawalai confirms the victim was found with visible injuries and beleived he may have been murdered.
Rawalai says the man is expected to be in his late 40's however he says the identity of the man is yet to be established.
Rawalai says not further information can be revealed at this stage as a major investigation has now begun.
A post mortem is expected to be conducted tomorrow and police urge members of the public to assist in identifying the deceased.
