Blues coach Pat Lam has backed Joe Rokocoko's bid for an All Blacks touring position, despite the try-scoring wing having spent most of the year on the sidelines injured.

Lam said you wouldn't need more than one hand to count the meaningful games that Rokocoko has played this year, as he has battled back from wrist surgery and hamstring problems that seriously affected both his Super 14 and Air New Zealand Cup campaigns and took him out of all nine of the All Blacks tests.

But he's fit again and his reputation has earned him a place in the All Blacks wider training squad that is in camp in Auckland this week.

And Rokocoko's reputation is significant given the lack of experience in the wing department at the moment. The 25-year-old has scored 43 tries in 48 tests for the All Blacks since making his debut in 2003.
