The Interim Finance Minister has today stressed that the stopping of gold exports by the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority is the prerogative of the Commissioner of Inland Revenue.
As Westech Gold Mining based in Vatukoula tries to sort out the tax issues with FIRCA before exporting its first shipment of gold, Chaudhry said no one will be given special treatment.
Chaudhry had also rejected suggestions by Westech director, Brian Wesson that the blocking of the gold exports is painting a bad picture of the interim government.
Chaudhry said Westech has to ensure that the tax matters are fully settled before the exports are allowed.
