Highlanders flanker Josh Blackie has had his first hit-out with his new Blues team mates ahead of Friday night's opening Super 14 match against the Western Force in Perth.

Blackie joined up with the squad yesterday morning after finishing his commitments with Kobe Steel in Japan.

Blues captain Keven Mealamu said Blackie went straight to training after touching down in Perth and it is great to have him join the squad, considering they are a bit short of experience.

The Blues / Force match will kick off on Friday at 10:45pm.

Meanwhile the Hurricanes will be without 2 of their All Blacks for their match against the Waratahs on Saturday night.

Hooker Andrew Hore is still unavailable after suffering an ankle injury while centre Conrad Smith is the other not being considered because of groin injury. The Hurricanes/Waratahs match will start at 6:35pm.
