Bhika granted permission to travel overseas
Bhika's Lawyer, Subhas Prashotam informed the Court that his client intends to travel to Malaysia, China and Taiwan between the 6th and 26th of November and then to the USA in the first week of December. Prashotam requested the Court that permission for both trips be granted today.
He also requested the Court that the $100,000 be made available through a bank bond.
However, State Lawyer Aca Rayawa objected and said that Bhika should return to Court after his Asia trip before permission is granted for him to travel to the US.
Justice Shameem agreed that while Bhika will be allowed to travel to Asia, he must hand in his passport to the Court on November 26th as soon as he returns.
Justice Shameem also said that she will not accept a bank bond and Bhika has to provide $90,000 before his passport is released as $10,000 was already deposited as part of his bail bond.
The case is adjourned to November 27th.
Bhika along with four others is jointly charged with allegedly defrauding the Government of $3.2million dollars in the 2002 Agricultural Scam.
