As only a week remains before Christmas, consumers are warned to beware of the high prices on certain items which would be in demand this time of the year.

Village News has observed firsthand how prices of various items, mainly food items vary from one shop to another. In one case in Suva, a supermarket pushed up its prices on certain sized chicken which is ideally used in lovo's, by up to a dollar due to the demand.

Prices and Incomes Board Officer Biu-tiviti Biulailai said consumers must be made aware that there are certain items on which retailers can vary prices at their leisure.

Biulailai said consumers must realize that despite the huge specials and sales on offer, retailers still have to make money.
