Newly appointed Digicel Fiji 7s coach, Ben Ryan said he is eager to coach one of the best teams in the world.

Speaking to Fijivillage from his London home today, Ryan said it would be exciting for him to coach a team that he previously watched and set out game plans on how to beat Fiji.

He said as a previous coach for the opposing team, he will now fix certain areas for Fiji which he saw as weaknesses.

When Ben Ryan was the coach for the England 7s team, he had total control over the selection of the team.

In Fiji, the current system is a group of selectors picking the squad and then the team.

The coach liaises with the selectors and the names are then forwarded to the FRU board for the final decision.

When questioned by Fijivillage on whether he would like a similar selection process as the one in England, Ryan said he would welcome the input of the people who know the game but he will discuss this issue further with the FRU.

Ryan also calls on the people of Fiji to be patient as things will not change overnight.

He has this message for all the 7s fans in Fiji.

Ryan will be in the country in the next few days and he will have only a few sessions with the Digicel Fiji 7s team before the Fiji Water Centennial Oceania 7s.

Ryan said he wants to ensure that he does things properly and he has decided that he and his wife will move to Fiji by Christmas.

He is contracted to coach Fiji until 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
