Being blind is not a disability.
That is the strong message from the Fiji School of the Blind President Dhirendra Singh.
Singh made the comment following the recent launch of the Braile Unit in Fiji.
Speaking on the 61 students currently being assisted at the Fiji School of the Blind, Singh said that there are many more around the country that have some kind of vision problem and help is needed for them.
However, Singh said there needs to be a huge change in the mental attitude towards those who are visually impaired.
He added that some students from the school have finished high school and have gone on to university while others have managed to get jobs at two of Fiji's leading banks Westpac and ANZ.
Singh said that for those with vision problems, nothing should hold you back.
