Ousted Opposition Leader, Mick Beddoes has turned down an invitation from the President, Ratu Josefa Iloilo to join the National Council for Building a Better Fiji.
Beddoes said he felt very strongly that certain matters needed to be part of the process in order to create the necessary inclusiveness and transparency needed if the Council process was to succeed.
Beddoes turned down the invitation as he wanted to be incorporated in the NCBBF that the 3 successful political party leaders of the 2006 parliament be specifically invited to join the Council, namely Laisenia Qarase, Mahendra Chaudhry and himself.
He also wanted women to make up 50% of the Council, that the People's Charter adopt more broad based principles and policies rather than the specifics currently sought by it and deemed most important by Beddoes is that the Interim PM and Home Affairs Minister give all participants an irrevocable guarantee that there will not be another single case of abuse of any citizen by the military or police from the commencement of the National Council's work.
