Opposition leader Mick Beddoes has today written to the Ombudsman’s office seeking an official explanation regarding the reasons for the deportation of Fiji Times publisher, Evan Hannah.
Speaking to Fijivillage, Beddoes said the people of Fiji want to know the truth and it is Constitutional for an investigation to be carried out on both Hannah and Russell Hunter's deportation.
Beddoes adds that the inactions so far of the Ombudsman has made it necessary for the next parliament to make changes to the constitution to ensure the next Ombudsman cannot compromise the integrity and impartiality of the office to the extent that the Ombudsman, Doctor Shaista Shameem has done.
The Ombudsman’s office is expected to comment later.
