Former Opposition Leader Mick Beddoes hopes the win by the new US President Barack Obama will have an effect on Fiji's road back to parliamentary democracy.
Beddoes said the historic win by Obama is testimony that race should not be an issue when it comes to electing someone to lead any country.
Beddoes hopes that Obama's win will have a trickledown effect on how people elect their leaders.
When questioned if people are ready for a non indigenous Fijian prime minister and president, Beddoes replied that he doesn't see it happening soon as people need more time to accept the idea.
