Beddoes Entitled To Own Opinion
These are the words of Ombudsman and Fiji Human Rights Commission Director Dr Shaista Shameem referring to former Opposition Leader Mick Beddoes's recent statements.
Beddoes was reported criticizing the Fiji Law Society and Ombudsman's Office for their lack of concern regarding businessman Ballu Khan's plight, that is him being under guard at the CWM Hospital, not being allowed visitors, not being charged and not being allowed overseas medical attention.
Shameem said that while Beddoes is entitled to his own view, the Ombudsman's Office and the Fiji Human Rights Commissioner need to be sure of the facts before commenting on the issue.
The Ombudsman adds that until the matter comes before the courts and the evidence is read, it would be premature for statutory authorities which have a legal mandate, to comment on the matter.
Ballu Khan is still at the CWM Hospital and police are expected to question him once he is discharged from hospital, for his alleged involvement in the assassination plot against the Interim Prime Minister and others.
