The Melbourne Rebels have announced that troubled Wallabies playmaker Kurtley Beale has been stood down indefinitely and fined an undisclosed sum after his latest off field indiscretions.

The Rebels and the Australian Rugby Union issued statements confirming that Beale and his management had agreed that the player would seek external counselling assistance effective immediately and would not return until he had straightened out his issues.

Beale was the guilty party in a punch up with Rebels skipper and then teammate Cooper Vuna on the team bus following a heavy loss to the Sharks in Durban last week.

Rebels take on the Cheetahs on Sunday at 3.05am.

Tonight at 6.35pm the Highlanders meet the Reds.
