As you make decisions, you must also take responsibility for the consequences of those decisions.

These are the words of President Ratu Josefa Iloilo while officially opening the Pacific Youth Festival this morning in Albert Park.

Ratu Iloilo while referring to the theme of the Festival "Auctioning the Youth Agenda", reminded youths that they will need to persevere as far as the world is concerned as Pacific Islanders are often viewed as a minority.

He also encouraged youths to preserve their Pacific identity, as young people of this generation, they now have become custodians of some well preserved Pacific traditions that have withstood the test of time.

Close to 600 youths from around the Pacific region marked the beginning of the Festival with a march through Suva.

The week long Pacific Youth Festival will have planned panel discussions through the whole week focusing on 5 main topics such as Pacific Identity, the Environment, Skills for Life, Healthy Living and Good Governance.
