As some business houses have started to raise concern on the items being placed under price control for the benefit of the consumers, the Commerce Commission is calling on importers, wholesalers and retailers to be reasonable in the way they are conducting their business.
Fijivillage has received confirmation that pharmacy owners who are part of the Fiji Pharmaceutical Society met with the staff of the Commission yesterday, raising concern on the price control and mark-up percentages set for medicine in the country.
Chairman of the Commerce Commission, Doctor Mahendra Reddy said he knows that many retailers and business houses have started to portray the price control order as a negative.
Fijivillage has managed to get the mark-up percentages for medicine after the price control order.
According to the gazetted price control, a 12 percent mark-up has been set for importers, 5 percent mark-up for wholesalers and 20 percent for retailers.
The previous retail mark-up percentage for over the counter drugs was 30 percent while the retail mark-up for prescribed medicine was 35 percent.
Doctor Reddy said the pharmacy owners already know how the cost of each unit being sold has been calculated.
Doctor Reddy has raised the question whether the pharmacy owners are being reasonable, knowing that they will still enjoy a 20 percent retail mark-up on medicine.
President of the Pharmaceutical Society, Ajay Raniga said they are still in the process of getting a few issues addressed and will comment later.
