The Australian High Commissioner to Fiji James Batley stressed that Australians’ are not being advised not to come to Fiji after the Australian Government upgraded its travel advisory to Fiji.
Bately told Fijivillage that while the advisory to Australian Citizens has been upgraded, it is normal practice to inform their citizens intending to travel to Fiji of the existing situation.
However, Interim Defence Minister Ratu Epeli Ganilau said they cannot comprehend the reasons to upgrade travel advisories when Officials in Fiji are aware that the country is safe and stable.
Both Australia and New Zealand have upgraded their travel advisories following the death threats made against Bately.
