Many unemployed women and men from outer islands and other parts of Fiji will now have unique skills to help them earn a living for their families.

The first ever Batik printing and bamboo weaving workshop was launched at the FIT Raiwai Campus today, in which 50 participants will take part for four weeks.

The head of the Department of Fine Arts, Music and Culture at FIT Raiwai Meli Tuqota said the Indonesian Embassy is supporting the workshop by providing items to use as well as a trainer.

He said Batik printing is an Indonesian art which will now be taught to the people of Fiji to help them in the long run.
