The Fiji Women’s Basketball team left our shores for Dunedin, New Zealand, in a confident mood in an attempt to reach the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

They will this week compete at the Oceania Olympic Qualifying Tournament and the good news was that every member of the team that won gold in the Pacific Games were given visas to travel to New Zealand.

Coach Michael Whippy said beating Australia and New Zealand will be tough but nothing is impossible. Two teams from the Oceania region will qualify for the Olympics while the third team will have to go through repecharge in June next year in Europe.

The Oceania Women’s Basketball Qualifying Tournament starts on Wednesday.
