Hurricanes first five eighth Beauden Barrett has come out in support of his coach Mark Hammett, after the side's dreadful start to the Super Rugby season.

Hammett has come under fire following the Hurricanes' loss to the Brumbies in Wellington last Friday, leaving them with just one competition point from their first three games and extending their losing run to eight games going back to last season.

However Barrett said it's the players who need to make the improvements, not the coach.
