All existing bank account holders in the country will now be required to provide their Tax Identification Number or TIN to their respective banks by December 31st this year under the new requirement imposed by FIRCA.

Effective from August 15th, 2010, it is mandatory for all employers to ensure that their employees are registered for tax and have a TIN.

Also effective from August 15th, anyone who opens a bank account, undertakes any transaction with the Land Transport Authority and registers a business with the registrar of Companies is required to submit their Tax Identification number.

Under the new requirements, existing bank account holders have to provide their TIN number to their banks before the end of the year while all existing vehicle owners must provide their TIN to the LTA at the time of renewal of registrations.
