Ballu Khan sues govt for $40m
At a press conference in the last hour, Khan's lawyer, QC Peter Williams revealed that they withdrew the case in the High court yesterday to pursue the compensation.
Williams says the writ is being served this afternoon to the Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama, Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khiayum and Police Commissioner Commodore Esala Teleni.
The QC also alleged this afternoon that those responsible for the allegations against Khan and the assault on him are linked to his clients business rival's.
When questioned on statements by Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama told Village News earlier today that he believes Khan is faking his injuries to try and leave Fiji, Williams opted not to comment on the matter. However he had highlighted a medical report which states that Khan suffered damage to his skull, damage to his neurological system, his face, eyes, and teeth and had a near death experience.
However, Commodore Bainimarama told Village News earlier that the independent doctors have already recommended that Khan does not need any surgery and he is not carrying any serious injuries.
Based on that analysis, the Interim Prime Minister stresses that Khan will not be allowed to leave for NZ for medical treatment as he does not have any injuries or sickness that requires overseas treatment.
Khan remains under police guard at the Suva Private Hospital.
