Local Government Minister Parveen Bala is urging market vendors and farmers to sell their vegetables at a reasonable price.

Bala said they understand that due to a shortage of vegetables, there has been a price hike but they have asked Sigatoka, Nausori, Labasa and Suva municipalities including farmers to have their produce transported to affected areas and sold at reasonable price.

He said the Ministry of Local Government is working with municipal councils to have vegetables from Sigatoka and Labasa sold at markets in Rakiraki, Tavua, Ba, Levuka and Savusavu.

Bala said this is a time where everyone should work together and they have urged all farmers to also think of Fijians in cyclone affected areas.

Meanwhile, Bala has told the market vendors of Rakiraki that everyone has to work together to rebuild and recover after Tropical Cyclone Winston.

Bala was speaking during the handing over of tents, tables and chairs to the market vendors of Rakiraki which has been provided by the UN Women.

Bala also told the market vendors of Rakiraki that the consultants and engineers are working on a plan to extend the Rakiraki market where an accommodation centre will also be built.

The Rakiraki market has suffered major damages in Tropical Cyclone Winston.
