Education for our leaders of tomorrow should have no barriers and this is evident when you look at the origin of Bainivalu Primary School.

Bainivalu Primary is a school which is located in Nakasi, and it is one of the schools that will take part in Tadra Kahani for the first time this year.

About 70 students will portray the true story of the school and how it started following the turbulent times in 1989.

Back in 1989, almost 200 students of Pooran Singh School in Nakasi faced a dilemma when the school gates were closed and none of the students could enter the compound to continue with their classes.

This was due to an internal conflict within the management which resulted in the permanent closure of Pooran Singh School.

It was just weeks before the annual examinations and parents of the school and the head-teacher at the time then went to Naulu Village asking if their children could be accommodated at the village church and community hall just to complete their education.

Naulu village chief Simione Bainivalu was approached and he agreed whole-heartedly.

Almost 150 students of Pooran Singh School then moved to Naulu village with the sole objective to finish their education for the year and sit their annual exams.

The light was definitely at the end of the tunnel for the students as Bainivalu then offered a 4 acre land owned by him to the head-teacher for a school to be built for the students.

The school was named after the student’s saviour, Bainivalu.

With this in mind, Bainivalu Primary School head-teacher Sirilo Leqaiwai said the school's Tadra Kahani theme for this year is "There's Light at the End of the Tunnel".

It is based on their story and the message will be sent on the stage through song, dance and the whole range of creative arts.
