Why is the Interim Government wasting money on overseas trips?
This is the question put forward by Viti Taukei Workers Union General Secretary Taniela Tabu has labelled the planned trip of the Interim PM to the Beijing Olympics as despicable, adding with the sacrifice already taken by so many of the civil servants on their pay cuts, he doesn't understand why the Interim Government wants to waste money on this trip.
Fijian Teacher's Association President, Tevita Koroi who said that this money should be channeled to the plight of civil servants, especially in their day to day living.
Meanwhile, Fiji Nursing Association General Secretary, Kuini Lutua said if the trips are justified interms of being beneficial to the country, then those in authority should come forward with the amount of money used for these trips.
It is not always wise to respond to every invitation we get, as this will only see a decrease in the government coffers.
That is the sentiment of Fiji Teachers Union General Secretary, Agni Deo Singh who also questions the Interim Minister for Education, Youth and Sport, Filipe Bole's latest trip to American Samoa for the Pacific Arts Festival.
Meanwhile, the largest public sector union, the Fiji Public Service Association General Secretary Rajeshwar Singh said they have no views on the matter and it is for politicians to consider.
