Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama has stressed that he is not bothered about Pacific Centre for Public Integrity Director Angie Heffernan's announcement that she will leave for New York tonight to lobby against him.
Commodore Bainimarama, who is now preparing to leave for the UN General Assembly in the US, said Heffernan's trip to New York will achieve nothing for Fiji.
Heffernan announced in a press conference in Suva today that she will be present in New York to outline the reality of the situation in Fiji under the interim regime.
Heffernan also says that NGO's do not need to be IN the UN Assembly meeting to make an impact.
During her visit, Heffernan intends to meet with international human rights and democracy NGOs based in New York, like Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, foreign government official representatives and UN officials.
Heffernan is also confirmed to meet with Glyn Davis, the US Assistant under Secretary for State for Asia Pacific, in New York to brief him on the situation in Fiji.
There is only one flight tonight from Fiji to New York and both the Interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama and Heffernan are expected to be on that flight.
