Bainimarama Arrives in New York
Commodore Bainimarama will be the 8th speaker to address the assembly in the morning session on Friday, New York Time.
In a press statement, it is reported that Bainimarama was today briefed by the Charge d'affairs of the Fiji Mission to the UN in New York, Mason Smith, on the work programme of the Mission, priority areas of focus and issues pertaining to the General Assembly.
The briefing provided useful insights on the current as well as medium and long term plans of the Mission in terms of advancing Fiji's bilateral and multilateral interests within the UN framework.
Bainimarama is also expected to meet the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare later today, to discuss areas of mutual interest covering both bilateral and regional issues.
Bainimarama will be accorded a Fijian ceremony of welcome by the Mission staff and will get to meet members of the Fijian community in New York over a cocktail function this evening.
