Bad decisions cost Fiji
South Africa defeated France 14-12 in the second semifinal.
Meanwhile, the Fiji sevens team continued its dismal performance in the Japan sevens after they were beaten in the Plate semifinal 21-19 by USA this afternoon.
Fiji was leading 19-14 with seconds remaining when Emosi Mulevoro kicked the ball to the opposition who later made defense into attack before they scored beside the post to make it easier for the conversion.
Fiji never looked to be the team that won the Hong Kong 7s last week as there were numerous errors committed in the game while aimless kicking was a major weakness in the match.
The national side took wrong options while lack of communication especially in defense was evident as two or more players were committed to the ball carrier at times which created the space out wide for the Americans.
Sakiusa Gavidi, Leone Nakarawa and Osea Kolinisau scored for Fiji.
Meanwhile, Defending Japan 7s champions Australia defeated the Digicel Fiji 7s team 21-12 in the cup quarterfinal earlier this afternoon.
There was no formation in our attacks and defense while support play was lacking.
Passes were not connecting, players look like they were tired as they made unnecessary passes which resulted in two of Australia's tries.
Fiji made a sluggish start and failed to settle in the game.
Emosi Mulevoro and Benito Eremasi scored for Fiji while Lewis Holland scored twice for the Australians along with Will Miller.
Meanwhile, a rejuvenated Springboks 7s side defied all odds and qualified for the semifinal after coming from behind to beat Samoa 19-12 in a nail biting quarter final clash.
Samoa stormed to an early 12-nil lead early in the second half before South Africa clawed their way back into the game and scored a try in the dying stages of the match to claim victory.
South Africa will take on France in the second semifinal 5.30pm while New Zealand takes on Defending Champions Australia in the first semis at 5.08pm.
The Cup final is at 7.33pm
