The backyard slaughtering of cows is illegal and now in light of Brucellosis people should refrain from doing this immediately.
Primary Industry Media Liaison Officer Jo Uluilakeba said they are aware that the killing of cows is also carried out by people during functions and under the law this is an illegal practice.
Uluilakeba said in light of the emergence of the disease Brucellosis in cattle, people should take heed of their advice.
Meanwhile, 30 infected cattle from a Wainivesi farm in the Tailevu North Area were slaughtered yesterday and a further 60 have been transported to the Nasinu abattoir for culling on Monday.
Uluilakeba said they are expecting more than 300 cattle to be slaughtered based on their latest test results.
