A 1 year three month old baby girl lost her life as she was trapped inside her burning house in Mead Road this morning.
The National Fire Authority told Fijivillage news that they received a call just before 10 this morning and when the fighters arrived at the scene the house was engulfed in flames.
The fire fighters fought hard to contain the fire from spreading through the squatter settlement however they were not able to save the house.
NFA also said three boys and a 15 month old baby girl were alone in the house and while three boys managed to escape the fire, the 15 month old girl got trapped in the fire and lost her life.
Following the tragic incident, NFA Chief Executive Jone Koroi said the unforseen incident could have been avoided.
Koroi told Fijivillage news that four children with the eldest only three years old were left unsupervised by their parents when the fire started and they are now working closely with police to ascertain the cause of fire that destroyed the lean to house.
