Two babies have died this year as a result of contracting HIV, however this could have been avoided.
This was revealed this morning by the CWM Senior Medical Officer Pediatric Department, Dr Ilisapeci Vereti, at the Consultation on HIV Prevention and Treatment Decree in Fiji workshop, being held at the Novotel Convention Centre, Lami.
Dr. Vereti said since 2005 four children have died from HIV/AIDS, and this year they have recorded two deaths, with more children being suspected cases.
She adds stakeholders are working together to ensure the number of children contracting the virus remains low.
The Convention ends tomorrow.
