New Vodafone Fiji sevens coach Gareth Baber says he is involved in discussions regarding new contracts for Fiji 7's players.
This is according to a Radio NZ report.
Baber arrived in Fiji this morning and is on his way to Suva with Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor.
The Fiji Rugby Union has come under fire after it emerged the Olympic and World Series champions had played the last two tournaments without any long term security.
The situation came to light when former coach Ben Ryan appealed to the FRU to pay the players.
Baber is expected to join the national 7’s extended squad from today which is preparing for the Wellington 7's.
Meanwhile, Fiji 7’s Manager Ropate Kauvesi has decided to step down from his post as he wants to spend more time with his family.
FRU’s CEO John O’Connor says a formal announcement will be made sometime this week.
FRU will also appoint a new manager for the remaining World Sevens Series.
Kauvesi has been with the Vodafone Fiji 7s team as the Manager since 2013 with former coach Ben Ryan.
