Newly appointed Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Gareth Baber says his main aim is to work on consistency and good rugby when he starts preparing the team from the Wellington 7s in January next year.

Speaking to Fijivillage from Hong Kong, Baber says he wants to ensure that the team’s success is not built on a few tournaments or one year but for years to come.

Baber says he has grown in Wales which is a rugby crazy country and he knows the high expectations of the fans.

When asked by Fijivillage on the basics and the structure of the game, Baber says he knows that discipline on and off the field is important.

He says when dealing with players, everything needs to be taken into account.

Ben Ryan had highlighted that some of the things he had to fix was the severe dehydration of the players, the fitness levels and distractions like grog, alcohol and players staying on social media for several hours during tournaments.

Baber says he knows these are important issues and the standards will be maintained to get the best out of the players.

Baber arrives in the country in early January.
