The government stresses that the National Register of Voters is and has always been available to both individuals and political parties for inspection, at their request.
This has been clearly stated after Social Democratic and Liberal Party’s senior official Doctor Tupeni Baba’s claims that the electoral roll is not available and there is no evidence of this roll.
When earlier questioned by Fijivillage on the availability of the electoral roll, Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum made it clear that people can access the electoral register.
Following Doctor Baba’s claims, the government said it has been informed by the Acting Permanent Secretary for Justice Mohammed Saneem, that on April 17th three SODELPA representatives, Ratu Dovi, Ratu Sikeli and Sekeli Duri Loco, inspected the Register on behalf of their party.
The government said Doctor Baba’s comments are factually incorrect.
We questioned Doctor Tupeni Baba on his claims, and he said SODELPA wants the printed electoral rolls with all the names of the registered voters available at a number of centres.
He said the SODELPA representatives were not given a copy.
Baba said they want a copy of the National Register of Voters.
