Ba sponsorship faces major issues
Digicel Fiji which sponsored the Ba soccer team for the OFC Champions league is today claiming that Ba had received confirmation from Fiji Football Association President, Rajesh Patel that as long as the sponsorship was for O-league only, Fiji FA did not have any objections.
Digicel Fiji claims that the Ba soccer team also received a letter from Fiji FA CEO, Bob Kumar that Fiji FA has no objection to the Ba team being sponsored by Digicel as long as it is strictly confined to the OFC Champions league.
Last night, Fiji FA issued a statement saying Ba is not permitted to use Digicel as a naming right sponsor for the district during the Champions League.
CEO Bob Kumar said this decision has been made after careful deliberation and obtaining legal opinions to avoid any potential legal action or any disruption to football tournaments.
Kumar has refused to give further comments.
We also spoke to Ba soccer President, Rishi Kumar who said they did not do anything wrong and they had received the endorsement to go ahead with the sponsorship.
