The Ba soccer team has increased its chances of qualifying for the semi-finals of the Fiji Airways OFC Champions League after beating Samoa’s Lupe Ole Soaga 3-1 at Govind Park last night.
Ba tops group A with 6 points and will play AS Pirae on Saturday in their final group match.
Ba just needs a draw to book a place in the semi-finals.
Gaitcha now has a chance of qualifying for the semis after defeating AS Pirae 5-2 last night.
Gaitcha needs to beat Samoa’s Lupe Ole Soaga on Saturday to qualify.
Looking at Pool B, newcomers Suva have been bundled out of the competition after going down 3-2 to Vanuatu’s Amicale FC last night.
This was Suva’s second consecutive loss as they were beaten by defending champions Auckland City 3-0 last Saturday.
Former Ba striker Osea Vakatalesau was in top form and scored twice for the Amicale side and also set up the winning goal for the Red Roosters in the dying moments of the game.
Suva coach Gurjeet Singh said they learnt a lot this season and will be a better team next year if they qualify for this competition.
Defending champions Auckland City thrashed Western United 3-0 at ANZ Stadium.
They have six points each with a match to play against Amicale FC on Saturday.
This match will decide the pool winner Group B.
Meanwhile, Group C matches will be played at the ANZ Stadium this afternoon where Hekari United will take on Team Wellington at 4.30pm while AS Tefana will face Tafea FC at 7pm.
