The Ba Town Council has conducted tests in the Ba River after some residents of Rarawai raised serious concern over the stench from the Ba River.

Health Inspector Jeet Narayan confirmed that no sample of waste material has been found in the river, however they will continue with their inspection.

Narayan said the waste water pond at the Rarawai Sugar mill is experiencing some problems after Cyclone Mick and the stench is coming from it.

He added work is being carried out to fix the problem at the pond.

A retired school teacher Dhirendra Singh of Rarawai earlier said the smell is unbearable and they suspect some waste has been dumped into the Ba River.
