The chiefs from the Ba province are expected to meet and discuss the recommendations in the report prepared by Indian Consultant Doctor M. Krishnamurthi which has recommended that all native land be de-reserved.

Tui Tavua, Ratu Ovini Bokini told Village news that they want to study the report before they give their views on the recommendations.

Tui Tavua adds the chiefs of Ba will have to be aware of the positive and the negative impacts of the recommendations before taking any stance on it. A meeting is likely to be held next week to discuss the matter.

The report by the consultant from India, Doctor M Krishnamurti to the Sugar Ministry, has recommended all native land be de-reserved. The native reserve is the land set aside for each mataqali for its planting and to support the landowning unit's needs.

The reserved land is not to be leased out as it is arable land for the mataqali's needs.
