The chiefs of the biggest province in the country Ba have told members of the Great Council of Chiefs Task force that they want the chiefly body to stand independent and also look at the interests of the other communities living in the county.
GCC review team secretary, Ratu Josateki Nawalowalo said that after meeting the chiefs of the 21 districts in Lautoka today the Ba province has shown its support for the GCC review and will be giving their proposal tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Tailevu Province Sub-Committee that is looking at the proposal drawn up by the Bose Vanua of the chiefs of Tailevu have decided that they will now make a final decision on the matter on Thursday.
Spokesperson, Ratu Inoke Seru said that they need to consult the chiefs against before they will make a public announcement.
Meanwhile, the Cakaudrove Chiefs' final proposal to the Great Council of Chiefs Review Committee, is that GCC members should be appointed by the Bose Vanua of the Province, before the name is blessed by the provincial councils.
Former parliamentarian and Cakaudrove Chief, Ratu Rakuita Vakalalabure said the chiefs of Cakaudrove told Ratu Tuakitau Cokanauto's review team, that the selection criteria should not be changed.
He said that Cakaudrove chiefs also agreed that the old systems be brought back, where politicians and those holding public offices are not permitted to be members of the Chiefly Body.
They also told the review team to reconsider the decision regarding Major General Sitiveni Rabuka's termination as a life member of the GCC, as they believe that Rabuka should retain his membership in the council.
