Land developers, BW Holdings has applied for a stay on the Lands Minister Netani Sukanaivalu's decision to blockade the piece of land in Vatuwaqa Industrial zone which was cordoned off in November last year.

The lands Minister ordered that the area at the end of Viria road in Vatuwaqa Industrial zone be cordoned off as the Ministry alleges that BW Holdings illegally reclaimed land in the area.

The Lands Ministry claims that BW Holdings was given permission to reclaim around 32 acres of land while the Company reclaimed over 40 acres without approval from the Ministries of Land and Environment last year.

The Lands Ministry then hired a private security firm and cordoned off the area which was often used by the public as a picnic and fishing spot.

The case was called this morning before High Court Judge Justice William Callanchini and a hearing date has been set for February 9th when the two parties will make submission on the stay application.
