Vehicle owners are being urged to get advice from the Land Transport Authority before they do any extra modifications to their vehicles.

This follows a number of vehicle fires in the past few weeks.

Fijivillage has witnessed a few hybrid vehicle fires this year.

There was also an LPG vehicle that was destroyed in a fire last Thursday.

Another hybrid vehicle fire was averted yesterday morning along Rodwell road in Suva.

While the National Fire Authority is yet to determine whether these vehicle fires were caused by extra vehicle modifications, there is still a real concern from the Land Transport Authority.

LTA CEO Carmine Piantedosi says they are ensuring that the extra illegal lighting or attachments to all vehicles are being monitored through their vehicle inspection process.

He says this is a real concern as most hybrid vehicles are also being used as taxis.

Asco Motors is also strongly recommending that people who have bought Toyota hybrid vehicles should not do any extra modifications than what is listed in the manufacturer’s booklet.
