Australia will always stand ready to assist Fiji when it comes to medical help.
That is the sentiment of Australian High Commissioner to Fiji James Batley after visiting patients at the CWM Hospital who were operated on by an Australian plastic surgery group, Interplast International.
Batley said this is one place where people can be rest assured that Australia will assist.
The team headed by senior reconstructive surgeon Simon Thomson has so far seen close to 80 patients ranging from burns to cleft palates.
Doctor Thomson said that there is indeed a need for such missions to other countries as people's lives are at stake.
The 4 member team consisting of two doctors and 2 nurses are in the country operating on a budgeted $AUD50,000.
