Aust will not change its stance-FWCC
This is the view of Fiji Human Rights Commissioner and Fiji Women's Crisis Centre Coordinator, Shameema Ali after the interim government's announcement that it will try to convince Australia's Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd to relook at the travel sanctions placed against Fiji.
Ali said that she does not think Australia will change its stance on lifting the travel bans against members of the Interim Government.
Ousted Opposition Leader, Mick Beddoes believes the interim government should take the opportunity of meeting with the new Australian administration, to improve relations with Australia and New Zealand but adds that he does not expect travel sanctions against Fiji to be lifted soon.
However the Ecumenical Centre for Research, Education and Advocacy had earlier said that they hope that the new Australian administration would be compassionate and have understanding for Fiji's plight with regards to this issue.
Chaudhry has confirmed that he will meet with Rudd on lifting the travel bans against Fiji once he announces his cabinet lineup.
The Interim Government is still waiting for some telecommunication companies to endorse the agreement signed by the Interim Government and Amalgamated Telecom Holdings on deregulating the telecommunications industry.
Interim Commerce and Communication Minister, Taito Waradi said Cabinet could not decide on anything today as they are still waiting for the boards to endorse the agreement.
Meanwhile, ATH Chief Executive Officer, Tomasi Vakatora said they need more time to go through the agreement and a decision is expected by early next week.
