Australia still tops the list of visitor arrivals in Fiji and in the month of January this year, a total of 21,586 visitors came to our shores.
Minister for Tourism, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said despite the negative publicity, Fiji is still the best destination for our neighbouring countries including Australia and New Zealand.
Visitor arrivals from New Zealand increased by 49.8 percent in January this year compared to last year.
Sayed-Khaiyum says out of the visitor arrivals from the Asian countries, Taiwan had the highest increase in the number of visitors by 218.6 percent.
Sayed-Khaiyum said the new direct flight to Hong Kong plays a major part in the increase.
Visitors for some countries went down and these include Japan, Canada and the Pacific Island counties.
