The Australian Government today gave $756,000 to the Education Ministry to help 25 schools that were badly affected by last month's floods.
Australian High Commissioner to Fiji James Batley while handing over the cheque said Australia has always been a friend to the people of Fiji, and the assistance demonstrates Australia's continued commitment to helping the people of Fiji during this difficult time.
Batley said talks are also continuing with other organizations on how they can provide more help.
The $756,000 which is part of Australia's $3million donation will be distributed to 25 schools, 14 in the West, 7 in the North and 4 in the Central Division.
The money will be divided, where the first payment of $389,000 will be used for repairs, maintenance work as well as the purchase of equipment and stationery while the $367,000 will be used to cover the annual school levies for the 6000 students attending the 25 schools.
