Aust, NZ tourists numbers up
The chairman of Tourism Fiji Patrick Wong said the beginning of this year was not a good one for Tourism Fiji due to the flooding and global recession which saw the cancellation of flights and deferment of holidays.
However, Wong said the figures are picking up now and the visitor arrivals for July this year was 58,166 which is just short of 833 people when compared to the same period last year.
He said this year's July figures also shows a record breaking number of Australian tourists coming to Fiji with the figure hitting 24,729 which is 3,000 more than the figures last year.
Wong said the same can be said about the Kiwi visitors as 13,168 tourists came to Fiji and this is just 283 less than the July record last year.
He said so far 280,000 tourists have visited Fiji from January to July this year and they hope to have a strong finish to this year.
