As the "Engaging With the Pacific" meeting gets underway in Natadola, Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama said he is seriously considering not allowing Australia to replace its High Commissioner.

Acting High Commissioner Sarah Roberts was expelled from Fiji earlier this month.

Bainimarama joked to The Australian that Australia had experienced its own coup with the removal of Kevin Rudd, but he is not taking sides in the forthcoming Australian elections.

He said whoever wins his hope is that there will be a change of policy by the Australian government.

Meanwhile Samoan Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi is not attending the meeting, saying it is an exercise in futility.

Commodore Bainimarama accuses Tuilaepa of being a mouthpiece of Australia and NZ, who had nothing for his nation except make them drive on the other side of the road.

Fiji's Prime Minister also said Vanuatu Prime Minister Edward Natapei buckled to Australian pressure and Fijivillage quotes "stabbed him in the back".
